Classes 
Beginner/Refresher Sewing Class
Here’s a chance for you to learn (or remember!) all the sewing basics. We’ll guide you through layout, cutting, and sewing a simple garment. Choose a project that you love (with a little guidance from our staff) and we’ll help you work at your own pace. This is an on-going class; so reserve a space and enjoy some guaranteed sewing time!

Every Thursday  10:30am-1:00pm or 2:00pm-4:30pm or 6:00pm-8:30pm
                      
Class Fee: $55/month (4 sessions/month)

 

Designer Details
Well-known instructor Margaret Simmons comes to us from Pinehurst to teach you all the tips and tricks of sewing that the pattern guide sheets don’t tell you! You’ll learn many innovative ways to enhance your finished garments, and improve your sewing skills by leaps and bounds! Margaret gives individual instruction to each student as they work on the project of their choice. Your garments will have a professional look you never thought you could achieve! This is an on-going class; the learning never ends!

Every Tuesday 10:00am-1:00pm or 2:00pm-5:00pm

Class Fee: $70/month (4 sessions/month)

 

Saturday Morning Sewing
Welcome to sewing Saturday style!  Beginner and novice sewers can chose a simple garment pattern, and work towards completion at their own pace with individualized instruction.  You sign up for each session weekly, so there's no problem with missed classes!  Registration opens each Monday at noon for the following Saturday, and payment is due at the time of registration.

Saturday Mornings 9-11:30am

Class Fee: $20/session

Best Friend Bag

This is the perfect gift for all your friends.  Here is how it works... You make this bag for yourself.  Your best friend sees it and says, "Oh my gosh, I want one!"  So, you make one for her and then your other best friend sees it and ...  

Simple, straight line sewing makes this class easy enough for the beginner.  

Wednesday June 18th, 1-5pm or Saturday August 2nd, 9-1

MAKE A TABLE RUNNER!

INTRODUCTORY SEWING SKILLS (Single 3-hour workshop)  Registration Fee: $40

This is an introductory course for those who have never sewed before. We’ll introduce you to sewing machines (how to thread them, wind a bobbin, etc.), basic sewing tools you’ll need for all sewing projects, and guidelines for selecting needles and thread. You’ll practice sewing straight seams as you make a reversible table runner that you’ll finish during the workshop. Bring your own machine if possible.

Monday, 2:00 - 5:00 pm                   

Dates: May 19, June 23, or July 21  

   

MAKE A SKIRT!

BEGINNING SEWING SKILLS (Five 3-hour sessions)   Registration Fee $125

You’ll make a simple skirt in this course for people who have never sewed or want a refresher course on basic sewing skills. We’ll walk you through the process of cutting out the fabric, sewing straight seams, putting in a hidden zipper, and taking up a hem. You should be familiar with how to use a sewing machine or take “Introductory Sewing Skills” before you take this course.

Tuesdays, 6:00 - 9:00 pm               

 Dates: May 20 and 27 and June 3, 10, and 17 OR  June 24 and July 1, 8, 15, and 22

OR

 Wednesdays, 9:00 am - Noon         

Dates: May 21 and 28 and June 4, 11, and 18 OR June 25 and July 2, 16, 23, and 30 (no class July 9)

 

MAKE A BLOUSE!

INTERMEDIATE SEWING SKILLS (Five 3-hour sessions)   Registration Fee $125

You’ll make a sleeveless blouse with a button closure in this course for people who have had some sewing experience. You’ll learn how to insert facings and adjust the fit through darts. We’ll also talk about how to select buttons that complement the design and fabric of your blouse and how to make great-looking buttonholes with a minimum of stress!

Mondays 6:00 - 9:00 pm                              

Dates: June 23 and 30 and July 7, 14, and 21

OR

Wednesdays 2:00 - 5:00 pm     

Dates: June 25 and July 2, 9, 16, and 23

 

 CREATE YOUR OWN LOOK!

PATTERN AND FABRIC SELECTION (Single 3-hour workshop)         Registration Fee: $40

We’ll introduce you to some basic ideas about how to pick patterns that flatter your particular figure and how to select fabrics that will work for a variety of different pattern styles. We’ll also discuss how to read pattern details so you can develop a list of all the things you’ll need to buy to complete a project. No sewing skills necessary, but a great introduction to planning your own clothes for anyone who wants to learn to sew.

Friday, 9:00 am - Noon                    

Dates: May 30, June 27, or July 25

 

 FAST TAKES (Single 2-hour workshop on each topic)                         

Registration Fee: $30

Each of these hands-on workshops will focus on a single topic. We’ll demonstrate different techniques and products, and then you’ll have a chance to practice. Take-away instructions provided for each topic at the workshop. Register for each topic separately.

  • Zippers: Learn how to put in a standard zipper and a hidden zipper by machine. We’ll talk about when it’s appropriate to use each of these different products and techniques.

  • Buttonholes: Learn how to determine the size and placement of buttons and buttonholes as well as how to make perfect buttonholes every time! Bring your own machine if possible.

  • Seam Finishing Alternatives: We’ll look at a variety of ways to finish seams other than serging: French seams, bound seams, and welted seams. We’ll talk about when it’s appropriate to use each of these techniques as you practice each of them.

  • Interfacings: We’ll look at a variety of types and weights of interfacing and the appropriate use of each.

Buttonholes: May 31 or July 12

Seam-Finishing Alternatives: June 14 or July 19

Class Policies

Class fee must be paid in full at the time of registration.  If class is cancelled by the instructor, a full refund will be given.  Class fee is refundable if you cancel 7 days prior to the beginning of your class.  We're sorry, but no adjustments can be made for missed classes.  We offer our students a 10% discount on all supplies required for your class.  Fabrics and supplies must be purchased from Mulberry Silks.
